Are You Grounded?

When I was a kid, I always hated getting grounded. I was the kid who would always prefer the spankings, then at least it was then. Quick and done with. All you had to do was suffer the pain which was brief and it was over. This is not the type of grounded I am talking about when I ask the question “are you grounded’? I am referring to your faith. The bible says in 1 Peter to stand firm in the faith. In other words we are to be “grounded” in our faith. So I ask you another question: what are you grounded on? What is your foundation?

In Matthew 7:24-27 Jesus gives a parable about two houses. One house builds a foundation on sand. The parable says that when the storms came the house fell. Another house was build on a rock. When the storms came the winds blew and that house remained. Where is your foundation? Here is a hint: do you know why you do the things you do?

I believe that many “Christians” do the things they do every day because that is what they have been done day in and day out. Many of you know these people. “I am a Christian because that is the way I was raised.” They don’t question anything and they don’t know why they do the things they do. I believe that most (not all) like this have a sandy foundation. They claim Christ but when trials come their house crumbles. Their faith is shaken and sometimes even shattered. So do you know why you do the things you do? Do you know why you come to church? Why do you pray? Why do you read scripture? These questions drive our foundation. I challenge you as a Christian to establish a firm foundation in Christ. Don’t just take anyone’s word for it but exam things for yourself. As we journey through life together may we build a strong relationship with Christ so that our foundation will be build about The Rock!

Hearing the call?

This past month or so we have been focusing on GoNow Missions and really just a “missions” push. We have had several speakers come on Tuesday Nightlight and share about their experience. Some of these speakers included a journeyman to Indonesia, a summary missionary who has gone to numerous places, and a student from Navarro who went to Washington. These past few weeks have been great and informational. However, last week, we ended our mission emphasis by discussing the need for missions, for being so passionate for Christ that we become like Isaiah and we proclaim “Send me!” We also discussed the fact that we don’t have to be a BSM Director, a pastor, or even a missionary to go out, but that we are all called to go. That it is clear in Matthew 28:19,20 and in Acts 1:8 that we supposed to go everywhere (Acts 1:8) and “as we are going” to make disciples (Matthew 28:19,20).

So with that in mind, are you hearing the call? Because the call is out there. God is anxiously crying “who will go” and is waiting for someone to step up. The command as been given, the challenge as been laid before us. Now, will we respond to that command and accept the challenge. Will you answer the call?

As already discussed there are several opportunities for you to go places using GoNow. These places are all over the United States and the world. And we, the BSM, would love to send everyone somewhere. However, that is not the main concern here. The main concern is that someone will step up and proclaim the Gospel. Not just proclaim it, but LIVE it. To use Matthew 28:19 again, “As you are going.” Will that person be you? Will you “rise up” and step up to the plate and boldly say, “Here I am God, send me” (Is 6:8).

As you students go to class, or to work (adults too), will you proclaim that as your mission field and will you “preach the Gospel, using words if necessary?” While going to eat with friends in the caff, or walking down the halls at work, or just hanging out playing video games and watching movies will you glorify Christ by whatever you are doing giving Him the Glory (1 Cor 10:23)? If God is sending you to China, or the Middle East, or Africa will you go regardless of what it may cost you in the end?

“How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?” (Romans 10:14) The need is great. If we don’t go who will? God is calling, will you answer?
